This audio file was constructed to demonstrate how MP3 conversion alters the quality of an audio file. Beginning with the first low note on the cello, the file undergoes a series of MP3 conversions to successively lower bit rates. Every two measures the file cuts to a lower bit-rate, beginning with 320kbps, and ending with 32kbps. Finally, the file fades back to a full-quality WAV file.
The recording is from a live concert of the Azusa Pacific University Faculty Trio, recorded on November 13th, 2006. The pianist is Duane Funderburk, the violinist is Alex Russell, and the cellist is Mark Szpakiewicz. The piece is Mendelssohn's Trio in D minor, Opus 49, Scherzo: leggiero e vivace. Devin Sheets recorded the audio file, and did the MP3 conversions.
