New Camera

After years of trying to show off her brilliant designs using a cheap little point-and-shoot camera, Gretchen finally decided to buy a fancy schmancy new Nikon D40, complete with lenses and everything!

These are the first four photos to be shot on it - see, IRS, it really is a business expense. Those are flowers. Stick that in your zigzag and smoke it down to the clip!

  1. Cool. Beautiful. And that’s it: I’m getting one too!

  2. Oh man, I made the DSLR switch a few years ago, and I’ll never go back. I spend most of my time behind a video and/or film camera anyway, so it was a natural progression. However, I will say this: It gets real old, real quick, being the guy who always lugs around a relatively HUGE camera and lens. For that reason, I’m looking at getting a nice point-n-shoot, prolly a Canon Powershot, or something.

(Man, Google Ad Sense is gonna have a field day with this post/comment)

  3. Zack, do you find that the CANON POWERSHOT helps with the MALE ENHANCEMENT of your ONLINE DATING?

  4. Well, Michael, let me tell you….

When I am LOOKING FOR A DATE, I tend to use MATCH.COM to find a willing partner. I’ll drive my FORD FOCUS to her house, after printing out directions. I could really use a GPS to find where I’m going. But once I pick her up, we’ll look for CHEAP TICKETS to the movies. But one look at my ROLEX REPLICA WATCH, and she knows I’m no cheapskate.

Ah, screw it. Let’s just see what this does:

    I CAN’T GET A BONER.

    :)

  5. …and in other news, Addison Road surpasses one billion hits today…

  6. Hello….jealous…sitting right here! Beautiful pictures Gretchen! :)
I have a fantastic Canon Rebel but it is not digital. One of these days I will get around to upgrading!

  7. Wait… what does “not digital” mean?

  8. Karen, my Tivo “recorded” (is that what Tivos do?) a Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood in which he went to a film processing factory. In other words, the episode was created before there were one-hour photos. (I skipped over that one and Camille watched him make tofu instead.) It reminded me of when film rolls looked like mini phone receivers and my grandma had to buy new flash bulbs.

  9. There’s a whole discussion to be had on the educational system and the people you entrust to teach your children…

You trust their teachers to edify them. And Mr. Rogers. And Barney. And Little Einsteins. So why shouldn’t your kids trust them?

Case in point: my strong-willed 7-year old and I had a rather heated discussion as to why Pluto was no longer a planet. My stance was that of scientists from around the world. He dissented, on the basis that Ms. Frizzle, the de facto expert on the cartoon “The Magic Schoolbus,” had claimed that there were nine.

    In 1992.

After 45 minutes of intense debate, he conceded that Pluto was no longer a planet, based solely on the fact that I knew where Mom had hidden the popsicles and was prepared to give him one.

Damn you Ms. Frizzle, wherever you are.

  10. Mike, I hope you don’t mind this digression from your new camera.

Matt, funny you should mention these things, because I am currently teaching a two-week unit on the Solar System to 7 year-olds in Summer School. We have had extensive-to-the-point-of-humorous/obnoxious discussions as to whether or not Pluto is a planet. I call it a “dwarf Planet”, well, because everything in our curriculum calls it a planet, and with a budget crisis, we aren’t getting a new Science curriculum soon. Then we sing “Poor Little Pluto”. http://www.musick8.com/store/alphadetail.php?product_group=2022

Also, I get to play Mrs. Frizzle each Spring in the second grade play. Hmm, I don’t know why none of the other teachers want to wear a dress with the continents and an orange yarn wig?… Oh, well, that’s why I get the big bucks, right?…

I will let Mr. Rodgers teach my children anything. I have a deep appreciation for that man.
