I’m glad you don’t find it annoying (the side conversations). :) You know how it feels to get away with something when the kids aren’t looking.

I used to feel badly that my main news source was Jon Stewart a couple of times a week. Now I don’t. Network and local news is so bad! It makes me sad, because there is so much going on in the world that I would love to know about. The NewsHour on PBS is good because they only cover a few stories, but in depth. All of this does make me wonder where “news” will be in 10, 25 years. Hopefully the next generation will do better.

This morning I was flipping through the local morning news. One of the stations, I dont want to name it, but it rhymes with KBC, was doing it’s “don’t touch that dial, here are the stories you might miss if you change the channel during the commercial” bit. It was comically long, about 3 minutes, and every reporter kept saying, “And then…” or, “Coming up after the commercial.” I felt like that was all I needed to see to be all caught up on all news I needed. Oh, interesting, someone broke into the Radio Shack in San Jose and stole all the hands free devices. What more is there to say about that? Their appetizer served as my main course. A better point to made from all this is, what was I doing watching morning news?

This is why I spend more time taking in the news from Jon Stewart than every other news source combined. Wait, I do occasionally watch Charlie Rose, whenever George Clooney or Steve Martin is on. Does that count?

I just read a great sidenote in What’s So Amazing About Grace?- (paraphrased) “I’m tired of the media that stirs up a fight just so they can cover a fight”.

I loved the brevity and truth of it. The news is almost completely useless.

That sucks. So do reports about weak holiday spending. I cant stand hearing about how retailers are worried that this year might see less of an increase over last year. But today, June 29th, in the “business” section of our local paper was an article about an early Christmas warning from retailers. Is that, a little early for this kind of article?
