I think I need to make peace with the fact that my work process is non-linear. It makes it very difficult to determine progress, but the final product always seems to arrive in time.

For those of you in Northern Cal, I recommend the Exploratorium in SF. It is a kid- and adult-friendly hands-on museum of science experiments. Recently I was inspired by their exhibits on SOUND, and wished I had the Addison Roadhouse there so we could ponder together. Here are the quick tempered clavier and tone memory.

That is some GOOD stuff. Karen and I have wondered what our reaction would be if someone told us even just 10 years ago that we would:
1. Get phone calls on a regular basis from friends in other states asking for directions to wherever it is they are headed.
2. Be able to helpfully answer said friend in a matter of seconds.
And that’s just one trivial example.
(hopefully our above friend will never get a data plan, or we might never hear from him!)
funny, I’ve gotten that call before.
“hello”
“hey daddy-o, are you at your computer?”
“mm-hmmm”
“okay, I’m in Boston right now… and I’m trying to…”
sheesh, don’t these people have Google Maps on their mobile phones? What are they, living in 2004?
And also, this seems like as good a thread as any to mention how awesome I think it is that we are running an ad for caskets on our site.
I have a business relationship with a gentleman from a different part of the country than mine. He does not help my stereotype of people who are not from my superior part of the country when he says things like, “Oh yeah, we have everything computerized.” By that he means that he uses a dot matrix print out with a typewritten coversheet that has his handwritten notes on it.
When I mentioned that we might consider using Craigslist, he was silent, then said, “Yeah, what’s that?” No biggie, he just doesn’t know what or who craigslist is. I am not making fun of him for not knowing that, OK I am a little bit making fun of him. I am not worried about him seeing this though.
At least he didn’t say “Who’s Craig?”.
