No More Tithing

So, a few years ago, Matt shot a quick and cheesy little video about what church would look like if we simply did away with tithing. I subbed out some of the music, and we distributed it through Sermon Spice – you can see the original here: No More Tithing.

You need to watch it all the way through, just trust me on this one. Watch the little gags along the way. Got it? Good.

I did a Google search tonight for the phrase no more tithing, just to see what would pop up. And lo, the google gods blessed me with this:

I called Matt, and made him watch the whole thing while on the phone with me. We laughed so hard I threw up.

    What the?!?! WOW.

I was struck by the first comment on You Tube:
“I wish I had an English version of this!”

When I first saw it, I was upset for about .03 seconds, and then I just fell in love with the fact that a group of people sat around and reshot our little video. It’s just … too bizarre for words.

Ok, so… I know I promised that I would call you, but it’s 12:30…. and.

Aww eff it, I’m calling you. That is the most bizarre thing… ever.

I remember seeing this at Calvary Community in Westlake several years back. Funny to know that you had a hand in producing it Mike. Where was this shot? I don’t recognize the buildings.

The whole thing was shot at Chad’s former stomping ground, Agoura Bible Fellowship. Much of the production was put together last-minute, so many of the people in the video (other than the main family and the devilishly handsome usher with the programs) were ABF congregants who just happened to be on campus that day.

The main family is a honest-to-God family from Westlake Village. Apparently, shortly after my phone call to them, they sat around and laughed themselves silly trying to figure out whose “Chinese twin” was whose…

You’ve got to be kidding me. Insane. I’m gonna have to mash the two together now, and sell it to a competitor.

What is going to be the next post on Addison Road? Who is daring enough to break the ice?? This is the post of all posts, never to be outdone.

I think we’re all just sitting in stunned silence still. Or, possibly, everyone has lives. Or, rapture, and you and I and zack are the only ones left.

I’m still here. I’m a shattered and broken shell; a hollowed husk of my former self. But I’m still here.

If I had any idea what you were talking about I’d join in with all my heart. No matter the explanation, you are one kooky individual.

“It could grip it by the husk!”

(and we’re back at the word that started this stream of consciousness. it’s the circle of life.)

Wow, Corey. I know you were quoting the Python, but I had no clue how that tied in with the rest of the thread.

I bow to your mighty powers of non-sequiter/sequiter humor.
