child o’ peace

Christmas is coming! I wrote a little hymnic song for the choir this year, called Child of Peace.

If anyone is interested in using it with your choir, here’s a copy of the chart: Child of Peace

This was by far one of the hardest demos ever to record - we did it wild, with no click, one part at a time. The timing was based on listening to the breath of the first bass part recorded. Once the choir has learned the parts, I’d love to bring some singers into a room and actually record a real demo of the thing, without the distractions of having to use separated parts.

There is one guy who is really off from the rest of the choir.

    I love “mystery” (1:10).

I heard it as I was on my way out of the office, and was already 90 minutes late for dinner. I’ll get it fixed by next week.

    Stinker.

Is that Gretchen? It sounds really nice.

You sound great too… ya know.

It’s a student from APU, Laura Talbott, who has been singing worship team at church. She’s a great sight reader, so I’ve been using her to sing choir demos this year.

This is a great song. I am looking forward to singing it with the choir at CCC. Thanks Mike.

This is truly lovely, Michael. I love “the voice of wonder breaking into the unfolding mystery.” Something that bothers me sometimes about our sacred celebrations is our tendency to rush to a theological conclusion. It’s good to be reminded that some things, the Incarnation chief among them, defy our ability to explain.

November 14: I finally listened to this and it is my new favorite Christmas song.

You might want to think about doing something musicy for a living. Just a thought.

UCO - next Christmas for sure! Thanks for sharing it with me

Thank you, Rod. I can’t wait to hear it. I also can’t wait to see how you plan to conduct it, since I can’t seem to find a way that works with my church choir - my own limitations, I’m sure.
