It grew on me. Jason laughed out loud more than I did, so I felt like I was missing something. That's why I felt compelled to ask. I agree with everything you said above. Perhaps I was expecting something else. I think I'd appreciate it more the second time around, even though I know the ending. Sorry to be so vague.

Stranger Than Fiction was a real movie, unlike most comedies that are basically 90 minute sitcoms with marquee names attached. The writing was absolutely brilliant top to bottom, and the acting ensemble was really something special, with Emma Thompson as the standout of them all.

It was visually arresting, and thought provoking, silly and sweet.

As an english major, I loved the movie. It was a chance to get in a writer's head, and to get in a character's head. On that level I thought it was extremely interesting. But can you believe Will Ferrel got nominated for a golden globe for his role in the movie?!? I thought it was great that he played it straight but I spent a lot of the movie waiting for him to break out, go crazy and get mad or decide to screw it and go streaking. There is an article in Time magazine this week about how Ferrell's bit is to humiliate himself in all his roles, which I don't think he did in this movie. But just because he gave a very restrained performance, I didn't think it was worth a golden globe nomination. It always seems like those award shows love when comedians stop being funny for a change and want to throw awards at them.
Well how's that for a first comment? I practically wrote a book.
