So, I’ve loved Saturday Night Live my whole life. It’s an interesting show in that, in it’s 30+ year history there have been three distinct eras of brilliance. Obviously the original cast was brilliant, but let’s not marginalize the brilliant Dana Carvey / Jon Lovitz / Kevin Nealon era, as well as my favorite, the Will Ferrel / Ana Gasteyer / Molly Shannon era.
For about the past three years, it’s sucked. Bad. I would sit through entire shows and crack nary a smile. Strange characters that didn’t seem to have any bearing on popular culture. Political commentary whose intelligence was easily eclipsed four times a week by Jon Stewart.
Then came Lazy Sunday around Christmas of ‘05. Then came Two A-Holes. Then there was some video with Justin Timberlake that was popular, so I hear. I won’t link to it, as I never, ever find potty humor amusing. I was terribly offended, and I certainly do not want the t-shirt for my birthday, which is June 28th for anyone who cares.
SNL has their mojo working again, and all is right with the world. The video that prompted this blog is this, because I nearly fell out of my sofa. I’ve been waiting for this parody for a long time, and anyone with kids will feel vindicated.

You like Two Aholes!? I LOVE THAT SKETCH!
Awesome. This week was by far the funniest episode in a LONG time. Well said…
2: Put your junk in that box
oh yes-and I’ve been watching SNL religiously since 1993. God bless that show. It’s the best.
Hm…we should talk about this further…
I whole-heartedly agree about Saturday’s episode! My friend and I tuned in during the basketball sketch where they danced. I haven’t lol’d like that in a long time (sorry).
Great episode. Thanks for bringing attention to it.
Maraka: LOVED IT.
We invested in surround sound when I was pregnant with our first. My brothers, who preceded me in parenthood, just laughed. “PBSkids will sound great with that subwoofer,” they teased.
But you know what? On those days when my brain is turning to oatmeal, I truly appreciate the Dora bassist and his groovy chromatic alternate chord progression.
As long as they keep doing sketches like this, I’m Tivo’ing every episode.
