15 Hymns Interlude: A Long December

This goes out to all the music pastors in the world, who spend all of December buried in charts, and orchestrations, and powerpoint, and rehearsals, and who produce “Christmas Miracles” every single year. Here’s to you.

I imagine that this song was probably written on a night much like this one, and ground out in about 20 minutes. I didn’t stop to check the chords, or even to attempt to play them correctly. I suspect that’s how the original went down, too.

I get a smile on my face when I think about 200 people in their bathrobes, all over the world, all singing “Na na na nah, na na na nah” together. Let it ring, my friends!

Also, Chad, “There’s reason to believe that this year will be better than the last”.

One of my all-time favorite songs, ever. Which is probably no surprise considering all the sad-bastard music that I love. Thanks, Mike.

    and the woman sings…
….”And it’s one more day in isolation,
one more night among the crowd.
    I get the situation,
I’m trying not to cry out loud.
And when he makes it though December–
    I’ll be so proud.”

My heart salutes those who give their all to give us chills while their personal lives wait in the wings.

Sheila – wow. Ok, the new verse choked me up a little.

And, don’t worry, this site is where editors come on their day off. They don’t get all apoplectic at a little misspelling, or sloppy syntax, or dangling modifiers, or whatever, or using a preposition to end a sentence with. Their all pretty chill.

Finally listening, on this night when B’s away at the last rehearsal for even more, bigger Christmas miracles. Got my lighter out. Na-nahing away.

I still haven’t listened yet…but I will tonight as my B is away at rehearsal as well. (And it’s our annivesary!)

Bummer June. Happy Anniversary all the same! M is out again tonight as well. Maybe the three of us should share a bottle of red wine together tonight.

[laughing] For a second I was all like, “a CHURCH guy wrote this??” Crazy Cerise, you literal thinker, you.

Counting Crows. Got it. It really works, and again, nice to hear your vox, M.
