15 Hymns: Go Tell It

I forget how quickly “everyday” comes around. Today’s “15 Hymns” offering is just a quick piano romp, flipped the MacBook Pro camera toward the keyboard and hit record. I’ve always liked watching the hands of people who play piano. Hopefully you all do too.

Sharolyn, there’s a little something in here toward the end that’s just for you (and no, I’m not talking about the sloppy pinky technique on the top end of the runs). Enjoy.

(NOTE: if any of my students are following along, this is NOT appropriate piano technique. This is me farting around on a piano for 10 minutes. If you’re looking for an example of good piano technique, you check this guy out.)

Soooo… This is just you fooling around at the keyboard? How many takes did you need to capture this?

A half dozen false starts and deleted takes, mostly because of how enormous my nose looked in the profile camera shots. (Vanity, thy name is iSight WebCam)

I’m sure Sharolyn will pop on soon and burst everyone’s bubble - all of the runs that you hear rolling through this are standard issue “bag-o-tricks” for pianists, things that sound hard, but roll very easily off the fingers. Which takes nothing away from how fun they are to play.

I feel like I’m Snoopy dancing on the piano! Go Schroeder! Very Vince Guaraldi!

BTW–did you know the twins girls dancing on A Charlie Brown Christmas are named “1″ and “2″? They have an older brother named “5″.

Dang, I musta skipped that day in piano class. This’ll be me with the video slowed down to half speed to figure out what you’re doing.

They’re from the special Mike Lee “bag-o-tricks”, which might warrant a blog entry. Let’s hear tricks for every instrument and sound board!

I am touched that you thought of me when it came to BSing on the piano. :) I am just now getting around to writing, but it was a great way to start my day.

Perhaps George Costanza saw that Charlie Brown special when he wanted to name his kid “Seven”.

So Sharolyn, did you catch the Sesame Street theme in the middle? Here’s look at you, kid.
