So, I know this is not news to anyone here… but his royal Mike-ness did a bang up job with presenting a devotional on music to the APU music faculty at our recent retreat. For many of the faculty, it was their first introduction to Mike… we have many who weren’t there when he was a student. For many others, it was their first introduction to Mike as spiritual leader and all-round deep thinker.
Mike basically presented some of the material he’s posted here before… an excellent choice. I watched the room. They were right there with him. He’s just so much more than they knew, even some of the folks who were, uh, instrumental in getting him hired. But they’re beginning to find out.
Besides that, he’s willing to discuss my crackpot theories about the human brain and quantum mechanics as they relate to spirituality and bond between soul and body and mind. Now, THAT’s a recommendation.
I don’t think he does windows, though. It shouldn’t be a career impediment. Say a prayer for our boy… he’s already been places, and he’s going to some new ones.

I’ll be the first responder to join the Mike fan club.
Mike has grown more than any person I know since the time I met him. (But then again, in the first month of friendship he drove off from the drive-in movie theater with the speakers still hooked to the windows of his parents’ station wagon, and the broken glass soon became one with Aly’s hand.)
Mike, I’m happy that you are getting the professional recognition you deserve, and living up to this new position!
From what I know of Mike, he became a much more thoughtful person when he started dating a certain someone. Is it any wonder he continues to succeed when he is married to Gretchen? :)

Hey so I thought you were in the Mike fan club :) Thanks for the encouragement. I too am so proud of Mike and have really loved having his “colleagues” (whoa) tell me how glad they are to have him as a part of the faculty. Yeah, this whole being on faculty is rather surreal, but very cool.

Thanks phil. it was pretty intimidating to give that devotional, but I think it went pretty well. People seemed to respond to the ideas, or were at least polite enough to smile at my while thinking “What is this kid babbling on and on about?”
