He’s still over there, I think. We’re retracking some of the parts on the very first tune we recorded. We’ve come a long way in five days and ten songs. A back to back listen to song #10 and song#1 revealed it plain as day.
It’s ten to two, we’ve absolutely killed this final tune, we’ve made the decision that we want to dig into the old one first thing in the morning when we return, and we’re packing up. Corey says something like, “You gonna be able to get your mojo working that early in the morning?” We’re starting and the crack of dawn, 11am.
“Yeah man… but I’d be better now,” Rosy replies, dead serious. 2am is Rosy Happy Time. I remember those days. Pre-children.
See… here’s the thing. The drums are the lengthiest and most intricate of the engineering process. Chris has 18, yes 18 channels of mics on the drums. On Tuesday, the day after we tracked the tune that we are now thinking about fixing, Chris and Rosy and Sterling spent about… no joke… two hours dialing in the drums tones. With minor tweaks, they’ve been spectactular for the past few days.
The drums are dialed, Rosy’s ready to rock, and Chris has been engineering for about 12 hours.
“You really wanna go?” He asks Rosy.
“Yeah man.”
“Ok, well let’s take five and then we’ll get in there.”
The rest of us, sensing that the night rokkers are about to get serious, decide it’s seriously time to think about bed… where I now lay blogging. But I’ve got dollars to pesos that Rosy’s just about now finished a burnin’ drum part that we will groove us to death as we dig in tomorrow.
These guys are animals.

1. Chris told me it was 19 mics, actually. But after 3, who’s counting???
2. Rosy needs to make a baby.
3. How late will you be there tonight?
