Manic Monday: Rawk Yo’self

For those about to rock, I salute you.  However, I ask you to avoid this guitar. Thanks a lot, Pat Metheny - now I know why “Jazz Fusion” sucks so hard.

I saw him play this (or something very very similar) in San Diego last year. The show was pretty cool, but something that could only be tolerated in small doses.

Whatever, you haters. Pat Metheney could totally kick Kenny G. and Boney James’ asses.

Man, Ramon has a couple of his CDs - he’s so good at the atmospheric composition part, but as soon as he rips into one of his screaming Midi (or whatever) solos I’m gone, baby. Solid gone.

And not in a good way.

    Morph,
does Mr. Morphea have the latest cd? The one that’s just one huge composition broken into movements? That’s the one I saw live. It was really impressive. They played the whole thing, start to finish, with each of the 10 people on stage covering a variety of instruments, sometimes for as little as a bar or two. It was really impressive. But I’m with you, there was a point at the end, when Patty came out to do his encore and just blew over some changes that I was yawning. The steaming hot bowl of notemeal was more than my tummy could handle.

[laughing] Oh, Corey. Corey Corey Corey…

“Steaming hot bowl of notemeal…” TELL me you made that up yo’self.

Nope, Ramon doesn’t have it. He stopped at “Letter from Hone”. I don’t actually dislike Mr. Pat. It’s just those solos that can suck it. I like his work with Gary Burton and Chick Corea a lot, actually.

I mean, “Letter from HOME”. Sonuva…

I can’t take credit for it. I think it gets passed around the guitar community. But I don’t mind claiming rights of creation if it wins me some favor.

I mean *ahem* hells, yeah, I made it up.
