So, I’m sitting here at the Seattle airport, waiting to step on a plane that’s going to take me away from my very sick wife. She’s been in bed for 2 days (if you know Gretchen, you know how sick she has to be to even slow down), and on Thursday, we did a midnight trip to the ER. Her GI tract is inflamed, she’s not keeping down any food, and every hour or so, she takes another trip to the bathroom to dry-heave for 20 minutes.
So, of course, Sophia decides that this is her cue to start waking up every night at 1 AM to scream for an hour or two.
The good news is that Gretchen’s surrounded by family, and they will take good care of her. The bad news is that I’ll be 1,500 miles away, unable to do anything except call and pray. Maybe you guys can help me with the pray part.

Michael,
Sorry to hear about the sick wife and up at night daughter. I noticed your blog because amazingly I also have a wife named Gretchen and a daughter named Sophia. That is bizarre. We are having a boy in August named Logan, just in case you are looking for a boy name.
Peace-
Greg

Oh, poor Gretchen! Sending good thoughts of healing…
Er, Ash, is that your prayer language? ‘Cause that’s cool, you know, if it is. [clears throat]
Dude, you were in my airport and didn’t call? I totally would’ve stopped by and brought the best Thai takeout on the planet to munch on while you waited. For shame, brother…

thank you all. I’m feeling a bit better today. Got two spoonfuls of oatmeal down. woo-hoo. 5 days of fasting (though undesirable) is a quick way to lose 10 pounds. I’m still pretty tired and weak, but I think I’m on the mend. Praise God for a loving family and husband to pick up where I had to drop off…

I think I’m heading out of the funk. I had some food today at each meal and it’s staying down and I don’t feel like I have a spear in my stomach protruding through my back. Yeah, it’s looking up.
Thank you all for your concern and prayers. Now I just need to get my 10 month old on a plane on Friday and get home :)
