Mike –

Just a note. there are only three real bits of CGI in the “Cog” piece.

1. The water was digitally enhacnced so you can see it better.
2. The lights on the car are not really lit.
3. They couldn’t actually fit the whole thing in one long hallway, so they had to create it in two parts. Thanks to the wonders of motion-controlled cameras they were able to merge the two halves in to one “seamless”, kick ass commercial.

It looks a little CGI to me, but cool concept. One of the thinks I love about the Japanese videos is the economy of motion – each step seems to have just enough motion to carry it through to the next step.

I loved these things — we have several perpetual motion machines in Boston Logan airport and at the Museum of Science and I cannot take my eyes of of them.

There’s also an amazing Honda commercial that only ran a few times overseas — 2 minutes of the most amazing sequence imaginable. They even roll a car to start it up! Here‘s a link to a high quality AVI file. Also, just search on ‘Cog Honda Accord Video’ to find others.

I spent the better part of my day at work yesterday watching this video, and tring to plan my own. Since then, I’ve been consumed by this sh*t.

And yes, the theme song will ruin you. I have $5 bucks for anyone who remixes with the theme song and posts it on this site. That’s five whole dollars! Almost enough for a gallon of gasoline.
