The Man of Sorrows
The Old Bill has been keeping an online catalog of icons, images of Jesus as various people have imagined him. I find it fascinating, find myself returning to it often. I’m curious about the following three things:
1) Which picture do you most identify with?
2) Which picture offends you the most?
3) Which picture has the most artistic merit?
I’ll give my thoughts in a day or two, but I’d like to get yours first. So that I can copy your work.
(to aid in identifying the pictures, let’s go by Row, Column. In other words, the picture of Jesus in white by the sea shore would be 2:4. If it’s easier, you can just insert the html code the the thumbnail tag, or link to the pic itself)

I kinda like Loaves and Fishes Jesus, because multiple meanings are cool.

Daniel Semsen here- we met a time or two (I married Christy Mann). We’ve been living in San Diego for a few years and are planning on moving back up to LA somewhere so that I can attend CalState LA’s graduate commercial music program (which I’m so excited about).

So I definitely identify with 1:5 Jesus with the little children around him. It’s a flash back to Sunday School as is 16:2 and 23:2 those “traditional” images of Jesus that are plastered on every childhood bible :) I love the sketch 14:2 of Jesus in the wind and 26:2 of him carrying the man who is carrying the hammer and nail. The bothersome ones are Jesus with weapons (24:4, 29:2) or when he’s really bloody and disproportioned on the cross…I’ve always had a hard time with Catholic images of Jesus on the cross, I guess because I know he isn’t there anymore. Yeah, and the most offensive have to be any of the George W. and Jesus pictures. I so have a problem being lumped into that “christian” category. Amazing pictures though.

This is the Nordic Jesus that hung on our wall for years growing up. Who says Evangelicals don’t have icons!

I’ve long been fascinated with Dali, and his Christ of the Cross of St. John is a masterpiece.

Jesus Arcade
I think this is the most offensive to me. The Jesus Arcade, the “Insert quarter, received blessing” view of Christianity is a cancer, and this artist captures it wonderfully, I think. And yes, I’m just as bothered by the jesus-bush images as everyone else, but they all seem a little trite and hackneyed to me.
