Details of the Day

Nov 17 2005

My wife rocks at nearly everything she tries. A few years ago, she decided to parlay her experience and expertise in floral design and event coordinating into a part-time business.

Fast forward 5 years, and that little business is booming. She is no longer teaching, and her company, Details of the Day, has become her full-time focus. To that end, we spent some time yesterday designing and coding her website. It’s now live and free for your perusal.

I’m actually pretty proud of it. This is the first site that I’ve really designed and built from scratch, with no starting templates or snap-on code. Corey Witt (a frequent commenter here at the site) did the initial color and font conception, but everything else was an experiment in running ahead full speed in the dark with scissors.

  1. Well done, both of you! It looks great.

  2. If I ever get married again you will be the first ones I call. (I hope Mary is reading this blog hmmm) Seriously, it will be good to have a place to send the couples who call me when they are planning to cut a covenant.

  3. Very well done. A budding web designer in our midst.

  4. Props need to be given to Beth Witt as well, who gave a “female perspective” to the job we hired Dog N’ Moon for :)

I guess this means I have to take this whole “running a business” thing a little more seriously.

  5. Excuse me? “Running into the dark with scissors?”

    Tagline alert! Tagline alert!

  6. Beautiful. Gretchen, it is so nice to see your work. I am sure there are many happy brides because of your business. We had nice flowers for our wedding but a more personal touch would have been really special. :0) Mike played piano for us even though he wasn’t supposed to play in public at that point.

  7. Gretchen Rocks!! And the models on your site are quite adorable :) We’ve been recommending you highly (as you know) to everyone we come in contact with!!

  8. The website just got a refreshening, if you want to check it out. I’m rather proud of it!
